Let me find a job so we can fund our daughter’s wedding, have a good health insurance plan and begin putting money into savings.
Oh my... how we think we know so much, what’s best for us, and what we need. God answered this prayer in a way I was not expecting AT ALL. Isn't that the way he rolls?
At the time that I wrote this prayer request, I was in the process of interviewing for a marketing assistant job for a local company so I thought it would be a slam dunk. I was making this easy for God to answer. What fun that job would be! I love marketing and missed it since my husband and I had just closed our business of 12 years. He knew this and I knew he knew this too!
However, I had completed my second interview when a temporary job for a graphic designer position at a large company was offered to me. I was supposed to find out that same day if I was to get the marketing job or not. I didn’t want to “just be a graphic designer” I wanted to be a marketing expert like I had been for the last 12 years! A big idea person, an admired expert, a... well, a well-respected person of the community, not just somebody that works in the back room of a huge corporation! So I told them I needed to think about it for a day (because I knew I would get this AWESOME marketing job where everyone would love my skill set and ask me all of their marketing questions and I would give them AMAZING answers to! Right?) Then the phone call came, I had not gotten the marketing job. I was told I why which didn’t seem logical at all to me. What? How do others know what was right for me? This was what I wanted! I didn’t get what I wanted! I was mad. Mad at myself and mad at God. I closed my Prayer Journal for two years since I was going to HAVE to be “just a graphic designer” because now I HAD to take that job. I didn’t have any other choice!
Isn’t it funny how God works? Two years later I opened up my Prayer Journal, looked at that request and realized that my prayer actually had been answered! This “just a graphic designer” job had turned into a permanent job with AWESOME benefits, salary and we have been able to fund our daughters wedding and begin to put money into savings, and then it turned into a management job! Who knew that God was protecting me from myself, my own pride. But as I write this story five years later, I still can’t believe it. Obviously God had a different (better) plan for my career than I did. I need to remember to trust in the Lord ALWAYS.
So, I thought I would start off by sharing my favorite verse. Romans 8:28. You will see it in a few of my designs. This reference was inscribed on all of the correspondence my grandmother sent to me. This verse came at the bottom of my birthday cards, letters, and notes as simply "Romans 8:28." My grandma used to do that so we would look it up, so I did! I learned it well, but I didn't live it until later in life. My grandmother was a prayer warrior, not a preacher and she knew it. Although she is with God now, she taught me so much through her actions, not her words. She taught me that we all have our gifts and prayer was hers and I believe it's mine as well. This verse gave me confidence I would find my gift in prayer and my gift of prayer for others. I realized that God truly has plans for all of us who have been called according to His purpose.
